Greetings HAWKS Families!

The beginning of the school year has been nothing short of amazing! Getting the opportunity to welcome 967 students to our campus daily has been something we have dreamed about for years, and now it has come fruition. We also are well on our way to making history this year with our first graduating class. A special shout out to some of our Senior families for their donations to the Senior Sun Rise – Ms. Torrez (Jim), Ms. Encalade (Bruce), Mrs. Thomas (Alissa) and Mr. Eaton!

As we go throughout the school year, we will have many different events to highlight our 130 Seniors.

Student Car Rider Dismissal

We are continually adjusting practices to minimize time and maximize safety in the car rider line. Things we have adjusted since the first day of school:

  • Created two lines of traffic
  • Increased adult presence in the car rider line
  • Started a system where we pause all traffic, allow students 10 seconds to get in their cars, and then release traffic at the same time
  • Limited students from walking towards the back of the parking lot

As a result, we now have dismissal down to 25 minutes total (4:00 - 4:25PM)!

We need the following from parents & families:

  • Patience: we are moving many more people than we ever have, and that will take more time even when systems are solid. We will continue to model patience for our students.
  • Follow the flow of traffic: it becomes dangerous when cars cut in line, jump out of line when they have their student(s) or not follow the guidance in the parking lot. When we all follow the protocols, we can keep our students safe.
  • No students walking off campus to get in cars: if your student is a car rider, they should be picked up inside the campus gates. When students walk off campus, it disallows us to keep students safe within our guidelines.
  • No parking in other business lots: as YES Prep Northwest HAWKS, we teach our students to be good neighbors. Parking in an adjacent parking lot during the day, or at dismissal and having students walk to your car hinders the neighboring businesses. We need to adjust this practice to become better neighbors if we have not been. Moving forward, do not park in any lot (especially The Nut Place business) in our backyard.

We Are HAWKS Nation!

Front of School Parking Hours

We are continuously working with Transportation to ensure we have enough buses to serve the Northwest Community. As of this week, we are getting 13 buses and as you know, space is limited. We are kindly asking that parents, visitors, and staff not park in the first row directly across from the front office between the hours of 7:30-8:30, and 3:00-4:30.

This will help us free up space to line up buses and safely load students.

Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation as we determine the quickest and safest way to get students home.

Introducing Parent Square

We are excited to announce that for the 2024-2025 school year, we are introducing a new form of school-to-home communication for our YES Prep secondary schools (grades 6-12) called ParentSquare.

This unified communications platform is designed to keep you, parents and guardians, informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with your YES Prep secondary school. Please follow the link below to learn more about Parent Square!

Attendance Matters

We want to take a moment to thank all parents for ensuring that their students make it to school on time every day. We understand that students may need to be absent due to appointments, illness, etc., so it is important for parents to submit attendance excuse notes to excuse a student's absence when necessary.

It is crucial for students to attend school regularly, as excessive absences can result in the loss of credit for a class and require make-up seat time. Our priority is the safety and success of your student, and we want to ensure that they are in class, attentive, and able to learn and succeed.

We appreciate your efforts in getting your student to school every day and encourage you to continue to prioritize their education. If you have any attendance questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Ms. Palomares at (713) 924-0500. Thank you for your support!

6th Grade BEST Grade!

Hello Hawks families, I am Mrs. Portillo and I am this year‘s grade level chair! All students have received their bright orange HAWKS card this week. They have also received a sheet protector to keep it safe for the next three weeks. Students are required to get it signed weekly by their guardian. The HAWKS card allows parents and students to track their demerits, restroom passes, and includes a monthly calendar. Encourage your student to keep it safe and bring it to school every single day. Thank you for your support!
