Attendance Notice

We must notify families when a student misses a certain amount of school, if you received a letter from us this week (or next) - this is a notice for your records. There are two possible actions you can take:

  1. Provide the school with an excuse note on the days your student was absent
  2. If you believe the absence is an error, email askypnorthwest@yesprep.org or call the front office to notify
    • You may also review students' attendance via Skyward!

Attendance matters, ensure the student is present and on time daily. We understand an array of situations can happen that can prevent the student from attending, we ask that the student advocates for themselves and get the missing work from their teachers ahead of time or when they return.

School Attendance Policy and Procedures:

  • A student is considered absent when missing 20 minutes of class for any period

  • Families should provide an excuse note once the student returns to campus (the student should turn it into the Front Office)
  • Excuse notes = Doctors/Clinic documentation or the guardian can email (askypnorthwest@yesprep.org) or provide a handwritten letter
    • Excuse note MUST include student's full name, date(s) missed, and the reason for absence

College Initiatives

My name is Javier Osornio and as I recall, this year as Director of College Counseling YES Prep Northwest gave me the opportunity to create the foundation for our students to have the opportunity to get to know each other and change/align their mindset with the mindset of being able to graduate from YES Prep Northwest and beyond – helping you continue your studies at a university or college, in-state or out-of-state, public or private. Apart from giving me the opportunity to be your director of university counseling, I have had the opportunity this semester to teach the project-based research class which in this first semester we began to talk more about and learn more about the university academic portfolio as well as about the other opportunities and resources available to bring your children to a college academic level. Things we've covered since the beginning of this semester include but are not limited to:
University research project, college pennant, university vocabulary project, projects and presentations about universities and colleges in and out of state, scholarships, the University of Houston visited us, and we hope that next semester more universities and colleges will join us. you can drop in at lunch to talk to our students, we had a mandatory parent meeting on Nov 13 for all 10th grade parents (permit slips sent home with students) and above all something ALL students must complete This school year is the minimum of one student volunteer opportunity inside or outside of the school.
I thank all of you as parents and YES Prep Northwest for giving me this opportunity to continue helping our students and you for creating a college-level/college ready foundation for our students as they are the future leaders of our communities!
I reiterate, I am extremely grateful for this first semester in my first year with YES Prep Northwest because their students welcomed me, and we managed to finish this semester in my class with all the enthusiasm, joy, and motivation. Your students have welcomed me with open hands, and I can tell you that I close this semester blessed as I have felt welcomed by each one of them and I have begun to have enormous affection for them professionally to do my best to help them achieve their goals. objectives and goals from now until they graduate from our high school and achieve bigger things and beyond.
Sincerely,
Mr. Osornio
